Trinity: Agentic AI-powered transition planning for students with disabilities
aws ·
Trinity is a conversational AI solution developed by University Startups and engineering partner g/d/n/a to help students with disabilities create personalized transition plans aligned with the U.S. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The system replaces static IEP forms with guided conversations, and its architecture uses Amazon Bedrock with a hierarchical six-agent system—covering college, employment, training, community, independent living, and orchestration—to generate compliant plans. Scaling required overcoming challenges such as combining multiple tasks into one prompt, delivering hyper-localized recommendations, and embedding strict compliance measures like field-level encryption and role-based access for student data. The solution employs a two-phase pipeline that separates initial recommendations from final plan generation and uses hybrid knowledge retrieval with scoring for relevance. In its first year, Trinity reached students and educators across more than a dozen U.S. states, with reported gains in student agency, educator efficiency, and IEP compliance, and expansion into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait is underway.
