US military adds ChatGPT and Grok to AI platform GenAI.mil

The Pentagon is expanding its GenAI.mil platform by adding OpenAI's ChatGPT Mil and xAI's Grok for Government, alongside the previously available Google Gemini. The Department of Defense reports that the platform now serves over 1.7 million users out of its more than three million employees and military personnel. ChatGPT Mil is intended for administrative tasks, logistics, and planning, while Grok is promoted for procurement analysis and supply chain management. Both new tools operate in a secure, dedicated environment that is isolated from their commercial versions to prevent sensitive government data leaks, and no user data is collected. Anthropic's Claude remains absent from the platform because the company refused to grant the Pentagon unrestricted use, leading the Trump administration to classify it as a supply chain risk. However, a court ruled that classification unlawful in late August.
