With Tabby, a former accountant is using AI to make accountants obsolete
techcrunch ·
Ahad Ali, a former accountant, has launched Tabby to replace traditional accounting software with an AI-driven solution that automates bookkeeping. Frustrated by the complexities of existing SaaS platforms like QuickBooks, Ali aims to eliminate the visible software layer by providing real-time financial dashboards for small businesses. The platform uses Plaid to import live account data and leverages artificial intelligence to handle paperwork and generate immediate profit-and-loss insights. Currently, Tabby serves 5,500 small businesses and generates approximately $100,000 in annual recurring revenue with a lean team of seven employees. Ali is raising $1 million in pre-seed funding while preparing to launch Tabby Talk, a natural language interface for the product. Although the market includes established players like QuickBooks and well-funded startups such as Rillet, Ali believes there is room for growth given the vast number of small-to-medium-sized firms. He envisions accounting becoming a simple monthly utility charge rather than a complex manual process.
