Workflow context for AI agents with Smartsheet MCP on AWS
aws ·
Smartsheet has launched a generally available Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, enabling AI agents to read, write, and manage Smartsheet data through standardized interactions. This integration allows users to update task statuses, create rows, and modify project structures using natural language without switching tools. The article details two primary connection methods: Amazon Quick for business users and project managers, and Kiro for developers working within an IDE. Amazon Quick facilitates organization-wide access via pre-built connectors, allowing non-technical staff to query and automate workflows through chat. Conversely, Kiro enables developers to reference live project specs and update task dependencies directly in their coding environment. The architecture leverages AWS infrastructure, with the MCP server acting as a central layer connecting these clients to Smartsheet’s API. Security is maintained through OAuth 2.0 or Personal Access Tokens, ensuring user-level permission enforcement and compliance with enterprise governance standards.
