X Pay Secures $1M to Scale Payment Infrastructure for AI Agents
aiinsider ·
X Pay has secured $1 million in funding from nine investors, including DCI and Skyland Ventures, to expand its payment infrastructure for AI agents. The company operates on the open x402 standard, addressing the challenge of enabling autonomous AI systems to pay for API access without human intervention. Its gateway allows endpoints to quote prices, accept signed payments, and return responses in a single transaction, settling funds in USDC on the Base network. Since launching on Base mainnet in September 2026, X Pay has processed over 50,000 payments while charging a flat 1% fee and holding no customer funds. CEO Johnny Sluijmer emphasized that while Coinbase contributed to the x402 protocol, X Pay built the operational layer that makes monetization viable for small-scale services. The new capital will support expansion to BNB Chain and Solana, conduct security reviews, develop an API marketplace, and ensure EU compliance with MiCA regulations. Former OKX COO Andy Cheung has joined as an advisor to support these growth initiatives.
