X Square Robot Launches TwinDEX for Robot-Free Dexterous Manipulation Training
aiinsider ·
X Square Robot has launched TwinDEX, a system that pairs a wearable device with a robotic manipulator to collect training data without using a physical robot, aiming to improve dexterous manipulation in real-world tasks. Both the wearable and the robot share a three-finger, nine-degree-of-freedom design, with matching kinematics, contact geometry, and sensor placement to allow direct transfer of demonstrations. The system synchronizes camera views, wrist poses, finger states, and tactile signals to better align training data with real deployment timing. Unlike on-robot teleoperation, which is costly and occupies robots, TwinDEX allows multiple operators to gather data in parallel at various locations using only a table and the wearable gear. The company reports up to 5.3 times the effective data-collection throughput of on-robot teleoperation. TwinDEX was tested on tasks such as cap twisting, using a broom and dustpan, opening a book and latches, and operating a syringe. It also successfully completed a 24-step autonomous chemistry experiment involving container and tool handling, liquids, solids, and two-handed coordination in one continuous run.
