XDOF, just three months out of stealth, is in talks for a Series B at a $1.2B valuation
techcrunch ·
XDOF, a robotics data startup that emerged from stealth less than three months ago, is reportedly in late-stage discussions to raise a Series B at an approximately $1.2 billion valuation, with 8VC expected to lead. The company was founded in 2024 by UC Berkeley researchers Philipp Wu and Fred Shentu and raised a $70 million Series A in June from investors including Thrive Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Lux, and Spark Capital. Although XDOF had not planned to raise again so soon, its rapid growth and annualized revenue approaching $50 million attracted interest from venture capital firms. The financing amount and whether the valuation includes the new funding are unknown, and the terms could change. XDOF develops teleoperation, data-collection, and annotation systems for robotics companies and AI labs, building on the founders’ GELLO project for remotely controlling robotic arms to generate training data. It is working with UC Berkeley’s AI Research lab on ABC, a planned large-scale robot training-data collection, and uses remote operators and sensor-equipped human collectors to record everyday tasks. The startup has said it works with 20 customers, including several frontier AI labs, and plans to expand data-collection teams worldwide.
