xMEMS Begins Mass Production of Solid-State Cooling Chips for Edge AI and Data Centers
aiinsider ·
xMEMS Labs has officially begun mass production of its XMC-2400 and XMC-4800 solid-state cooling chips, targeting thermal management for edge AI devices and data centers. These chips utilize an all-silicon piezoMEMS technology that moves air without rotating blades or bearings, eliminating noise and vibration while fitting into extremely compact spaces. The XMC-2400 is designed for smaller form factors like AI glasses and personal SSDs, whereas the larger XMC-4800 provides higher airflow for smartphones and enterprise data-center components. Early customer testing has demonstrated significant temperature reductions ranging from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius across various hardware types. Mike Housholder, xMEMS’ VP, emphasized that conventional fans cannot meet the strict size and reliability requirements of modern edge AI systems. The first commercial products featuring the XMC-2400 are expected to reach the market in early 2027. Additionally, the company plans to showcase its µCooling technology at CES 2027 to demonstrate its applicability across multiple sectors.
