XRlabs has secured $8.4 million in seed funding led by Playground Global to expand its AI-powered Surgical Intelligence platform. The London-based startup, which also maintains an office in Palo Alto, develops software that acts as an external AI layer for existing operating room equipment. This system utilizes computer vision and deep learning to analyze live surgical video alongside navigation data and preoperative imaging. XRlabs reports that its technology has already been deployed in over 100 surgical cases across three continents. The company plans to use the new capital to grow its engineering and clinical teams while advancing regulatory approvals in the UK, Europe, and the US. Additionally, Omar Ishrak, former CEO of Medtronic, has joined the board as chair to support these efforts. The funding round also included participation from Eka Ventures and a compute allocation from the U.K. AI Research Resource.
