Your AI agents can now control your Google Home devices
techcrunch ·
Google has launched early access to its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for the Google Home ecosystem, enabling AI agents to control smart home devices. This integration allows compatible agents, such as Claude and ChatGPT, to securely manage connected hardware and access event history using natural language commands. Users can perform tasks like reviewing camera summaries, monitoring activity, and building custom dashboards through this new functionality. To set up the connection, users must create a Google Cloud project, configure it for Home MCP, and grant permissions to their chosen agent. The rollout is currently limited to U.S. subscribers of the $20-per-month Google Home Premium Advanced tier. While support extends to all Google Nest and Matter-compatible devices, Google has not specified when broader availability will occur. The company is actively soliciting feedback from early adopters via its developer community during this initial phase.
