YouTube will let you build your own algorithm with AI
techcrunch ·
YouTube has announced a new feature called custom feeds that allows users to create personalized video recommendations using natural language prompts. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI model, this tool enables viewers to describe specific interests, moods, or use cases for their desired content. The resulting custom feed is pinned to the top of the YouTube home page in its own dedicated tab, distinct from the main recommendation algorithm. This initiative follows a broader industry trend where platforms like Bluesky, Meta, and Spotify have introduced similar AI-driven feed-building capabilities. Emily Moxley, YouTube’s VP of Product Management for Viewer AI, emphasized that the vast library of over 20 billion videos makes such curation tools valuable for exploration. These custom feeds will not replace the standard homepage feed but will offer an additional way to navigate content. Support for creating multiple custom feeds is scheduled to roll out on web and mobile platforms starting next month.
