Zap Surgical Raises $36M in Funding to Scale Non-Invasive Robotic Brain Surgery
aiinsider ·
Zap Surgical Systems has secured $36 million in new financing led by Catalio Capital Management, with strategic partner Baheal also participating. The company plans to use these funds to expand the production and global deployment of its ZAP-X robotic radiosurgery platform. This non-invasive technology uses targeted radiation to treat brain tumors and neurological conditions without open surgery. Zap recently announced it has shipped its 50th system and treated nearly 10,000 patients worldwide. In addition to commercial growth, the firm is investigating radiomodulation for psychiatric conditions like treatment-resistant depression and addiction. Larger multicenter trials for these experimental applications are planned to begin soon. Dr. Nicholas von Guionneau from Catalio will join the board as an observer, citing the potential for intelligent robotics to reduce healthcare costs. The startup was founded by neurosurgeon John R. Adler, who aims to make non-invasive brain therapy more accessible globally.
